Hi, I’m Michael. Software engineer and engineering leader, more than 15 years building software and the teams behind it.

Co-founder and VP of Engineering at ForkJoin. Most days that means architecture, engineering management, consulting, and messy real-world problems. Same shape of work in insurance, fintech, telecom, and other B2B domains: lots of integrations, legacy, and business rules. Easy to make that more complicated than it needs to be.

Better to go the other way: understand the actual problem, find the simplest architecture that can survive reality, and build software people can keep changing years later without being afraid of it.

Most of the current focus is how AI is changing software development. The whole process: requirements, architecture, review, testing, team structure, and teams that include both people and AI agents.

Notes from that work end up here. Consulting and engineering, experiments with AI and developer tools, and subjects still in progress. Lately that’s electronics, firmware, robotics, and small-device AI. Not every experiment works.
